Questions worth asking your contractor
What exactly is included in the price?
Ask for a written scope covering preparation, quantities, material specifications, finishes, access, waste removal and making good. Identify exclusions, provisional allowances and whether VAT is included or applicable.
How will the quality of the work be agreed?
Ask which product system and installation instructions will be followed, who will carry out the work, and whether samples or a reference finish can be agreed. Clarify inspection points before work is covered up.
What happens if the cost or programme changes?
Ask how extras will be priced and agreed in writing, what could delay the job and when you’ll be updated. Check that payment milestones describe measurable stages of work.
What will I receive when the job is finished?
Agree how completion will be checked, how snags will be recorded and resolved, and which product information, certificates and warranty details apply to your job. Ask who to contact if a problem appears afterwards.
